Before making the formal announcement, the Buckeyes’ X (formerly known as “Twitter”) account had been making subtle allusions to the release of a new jersey for a little more than a week. They started by sharing an all-gray image with the Spartans game date. They then shared a video of Ohio Stadium changing from colour to black and grey to the original image.

Before the entire uniform was made public at the end of the week, a closer look at the uniforms was released a few days later.

Ohio State has previously donned a grey uniform, making its “Land of the Wolves” debut in a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback victory over Penn State in 2017.

Since 2009, the Buckeyes have a 25-7 record in alternate uniforms, with four of those defeats occurring in bowl or College Football Playoff games.
