Manager is “delighted” with Leeds United player as a 2024 contract with a low cost approaches.
With three goals in his first three games for Middlesbrough on loan from Leeds United, attacker Sam Greenwood is having a great time.
Leeds loaned out a lot of players in the summer, but not all of them did so because the club decided to do so under the new management.
Sam Greenwood, who was one of the few players loaned out by the team, is not expected to play a significant amount of games at Elland Road this season.
How is Middlesbrough’s Greenwood performing?
After joining the Teesside club at the end of their winless streak, he went on loan to Middlesbrough in the Championship, where he scored twice during their incredible six-game winning streak. It was his first goal for the club against his boyhood side, Sunderland.
Since then, he has added a third goal to his total, scoring in the 3-3 draw with Plymouth Argyle and winning a penalty kick that Josh Coburn converted off the rebound.
Greenwood, will Michael Carrick sign him?
According to The Athletic, Greenwood’s loan at the Riverside came with a £1.5 million buyout clause—the same amount Leeds had to pay to acquire him from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.
In response to a question regarding that possibility, Michael Carrick, the manager of Boro, told Teesside Live:
“On that, time will tell. He’s working out great for us right now, and we’re glad to have him. There will be decisions to be made in the future, but for now, it’s all about performances, and I couldn’t ask for more from him.
Leeds v Plymouth predictions?
Middlesbrough is currently proving to be a steal at that price, so it would be foolish to pass up the permanent option at this point.
Even though the season is still young and full of potential, you would think that a young, versatile player with a strong finish in his locker would only get better.
Even if the club didn’t think he had much of a future, you have to wonder what they were thinking to let him go for that kind of money.
