Basketball at Rutgers: Clifford Omoruyi is included in the Naismith top 50 watch list
As the 2023 college basketball season gets underway, Clifford Omoruyi is expected to perform well. The Benin City native has been one of Rutgers’ best offensive players and a force on the boards during his college career. He is becoming known for his influence on a national scale as a result of his play.
Omoruyi was added to the top 50 Naismith Trophy Watchlist on Monday. The Naismith Trophy is awarded by the Basketball Hall of Fame to the National Player of the Year. Ever since Ron Harper Jr. in 2021, he is the first player from Rutgers to be named to the preseason watchlist. Although the Rutgers center’s accomplishment is impressive, his main goal is to help his team win.
Omoruyi expressed his excitement for the team this year to Rutgers athletics. It’s thrilling to lead alongside Aundre (Hyatt), Mawot (Mag), and Oskar (Palmquist). Everybody wants to win. We would like to place trophies and game balls in Coach (Steve) Pikiell’s office. In addition to wanting to win the Big Ten Championship, my personal objective is to perform at my highest level for my teammates.
Omoruyi was outstanding in Rutgers’ season opener, leading the Scarlet Knights in points (12) and rebounds (7). The and rebounds fell to Princeton 68-61, though, as they were unable to capitalise on his performance.
We’ll be closely monitoring Omoruyi’s play as the season goes on. The top 30 players in the country will be eliminated from the Naismith Trophy watch list in February, and four finalists will be chosen in March. The Final Four will announce the winner on April 2.
