Ryan Day Defines Kyle McCord’s Peak Performance Periods for the Ohio State Buckeyes QB.
Coach Ryan Day of the Ohio State Buckeyes disclosed what Kyle McCord needs to excel in the offence.
Last week against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Ohio State Buckeyes offence struggled in the first half before blowing up for 28 points in the last two quarters.
Although Kyle McCord, the quarterback for the Buckeyes, has been reliable in recent weeks, he has had a noticeable problem in his last two games: turnovers.
After starting the season with just one interception through the first seven games, McCord has totaled three interceptions in the last two games.
That being said, head coach Ryan Day thinks McCord will perform at his peak and take care of the football when he finds his rhythm.
During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Day stated, “The only thing I can recognise is when his feet are right and his eyes are right, that’s when he’s at his best.”
Day continued by saying that although he makes an effort to place McCord in the best circumstances for success, there are times when improvising is necessary, which can be difficult.
“You try to find things that he’s comfortable with but sometimes you can’t always predict it the right way,” Day stated.
The head coach of the Buckeyes continued his speech by discussing the benefits of having two reliable, healthy running backs in senior Chip Trayanum and junior TreVeyon Henderson, as well as how this would aid McCord and the passing game.
You get two ball carriers as a result. And when that occurs, they must at the very least defend you in a slightly different way,” Day stated.
Day said the schemes the Buckeyes throw at other teams confuse them because they can’t focus on “one personnel group or one scheme.” Henderson has caused problems for defences, especially in the last two games against Wisconsin and Rutgers where the passing game was off. Henderson has a combined 415 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in those games.
“The spacings are different, the schemes are different, the angles are different,” Day stated. “And sometimes when you can change that up, it opens up things in other areas.”
Day, Henderson, and the Buckeyes will take on Michigan State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Columbus, which will be televised on NBC Sports.
