According to reports, the 24-year-old was practising in South Florida when the mishap happened.
In a press release issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, it is stated that Haskins was struck by an oncoming dump truck at 6:37 a.m. while attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595 while strolling for an unidentified reason. At the scene, he was declared deceased.
Haskins, a former Potomac, Maryland, four-star prospect, was a member of the Buckeyes from 2016 to 2018, during which time he set multiple school and Big Ten records with his 4,831 yards and 50 touchdown passes in his only season as a starter. In addition to winning the Silver Football Award from the Chicago Tribune and being named the Big Ten’s offensive player and quarterback of the year, he was a finalist for the 2018 Heisman Trophy.
