According to the most recent US LBM CoachesPoll, Ohio State jumps to No. 2 ahead of Michigan.
Over the weekend, there weren’t many true upsets in college football. But following Week 12, voters in the US LBM Coaches Poll made a few minor changes to their ballots due to on-field performances. The top five thus appear somewhat differently.
Georgia maintained its position as the top-ranked team, which it has had the entire season. Following a convincing victory at Tennessee, the Bulldogs were voted first on all but two of the 63 ballots that were submitted this week.
Both Ohio State and the Wolverines receive a single first-place vote, pushing them ahead of Michigan by two poll points for the No. 2 spot. At Maryland, Michigan prevailed in its first close game of the year, while Ohio State completely dominated Minnesota. Of course, the issue will be resolved on the pitch the following week, but supporters of both teams will undoubtedly feel free to voice their thoughts during this vote.
No. 5 Washington narrowed the deficit to just eight points following a hard road victory at Oregon State, but Florida State still holds the No. 4 ranking. The Beavers, who drop to No. 15 from just five spots, will get another chance to move up in the rankings when they play No. 6 Oregon the following week.
In places seven through nine, Texas, Alabama, and Louisville continue to hold steady, while Missouri moves up one spot to complete the top 10. The Tigers were last seen in the top 10 of the 2013 season’s final poll prior to this week.
The biggest mover of the week is Arizona, which moved up six spots to No. 16 following yet another impressive performance against Utah. Tennessee has lost twice in a row and four times this season, but they are still ranked No. 23 in the poll.
Liberty, who is currently undefeated, enters the rankings at No. 22 for the first time this year. No. 25 SMU and No. 24 North Carolina State also make an appearance.
James Madison, North Carolina, and Utah withdraw.
