The Iowa football team is still plagued by injuries.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz announced in a release on Wednesday evening that Cooper DeJean, a key player for the Hawkeyes who plays cornerback and punt return, suffered a lower leg injury during practise and will miss the rest of the season.
Ferentz remarked, “This is really heartbreaking for Cooper.” He is a true playmaker for our team and has played incredibly well. Cooper will continue to heal well into the new year, and we will all be there to support him.
“Our team has faced numerous challenges this season. I’m proud of the grit and determination with which our players have responded. Our attention is on Saturday,” Ferentz continued.
After defeating Illinois onFor the first time since 2021, Iowa will secure the Big Ten West on Saturday and advance to the conference final in Indianapolis.
On the radio programme “Hawk Talk,” Ferentz discussed DeJean’s injury in more detail with play-by-play commentator Gary Dolphin.
Deshaun Lee will take DeJean’s place at cornerback, according to the head coach. As a stand-in for Jermari Harris, who is currently the other starting cornerback due to his involvement in the gambling investigation, Lee started the first two games of the season.
Kaden Wetjen will assume control of punt returns, according to Ferentz.
He twisted the deal so much that something had to give. This was a deal where his foot was planted. Therefore, it’s regrettable,” Ferentz stated on the radio. “I hate to say routine, but if there is good news, it should be a very predictable route back for him. It will require some time., take longer than a week or two. The good news is that he should be fully recovered and ready to go within that time frame.
