After the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers 37-3 on Saturday, Ryan Day gave the team’s supporters some encouraging news.
Linebacker Tommy Eichenberg is expected to play this coming weekend against the third-ranked Michigan Wolverines, according to the Buckeyes coach.
Eichenberg has been absent from Ohio State’s last two games: yesterday’s matchup with the Golden Gophers and the team’s November 11 game against the Michigan State Spartans. Day stated that although the Cleveland, Ohio native could have participated in the game against Minnesota, he was kept off the field out of caution.
“Tommy (Eichenberg) was ready to play in this one, and I had to pull him back,” Day stated. “It was almost a fistfight… I won.”
Day later in his press conference stated that the upcoming game against the Wolverines and the postseason are “just too much on the line going forward” to force Eichenberg into action too soon.
Day stated that information regarding defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. and a few other important players who have been absent from the Buckeyes over the past few weeks should be available over the coming days.
“I’ll try to give you guys more of an update next week, but we’re expecting to have everybody back,” Day stated.
When facing the Wolverines, who have become one of the top offenses in college football, the Buckeyes will undoubtedly profit from having their defense at full strength.
On Saturday, November 25, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines are slated to kick off at 12 p.m. eastern. FOX will broadcast live coverage of the historic rivalry across the country.
