NFL Draft: Emeka Egbuka Is Labeled as ‘Slant King of the 2024 Class’
Expect Dallas to take a serious look at receiver in the 2024 NFL draft, regardless of what the Cowboys decide to do with their veterans. With the addition of Egbuka, what would the Dallas offense get?
In 13 games, the Buckeyes receiver caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022, putting up eye-popping stats. Egbuka has made eight appearances and has 32 catches for 427 yards and three touchdowns.
Egbuka was dubbed the “slant king” of the upcoming class by ESPN’s Matt Miller. Egbuka was ranked No. 25 by the analyst as the player to watch in the upcoming draft.
In an article titled “2024 NFL draft rankings: Matt Miller’s top 50 prospects,” published on November 2, Miller described Egbuka as the “slant king of the 2024 class,” utilizing his frame and positional instincts to shield defenders from the ball. Actually, this season, shallow or crossing routes make up 29.2% of Egbuka’s routes.
He has outstanding speed and burst after the catch, though, so he’s more than just a possession receiver. He can also return punts with enough deception. Despite missing several weeks due to a leg injury, Egbuka’s draft stock shouldn’t be impacted. He is a late-round Round 1 prospect who projects to be a solid WR2 in the pros.
Dallas is currently hoping that it will be some time before the team has to respond to the persistent Cowboys rumors. Up until February, Dallas is performing like a team capable of competing in the postseason.
