The Wolverines’ kicker, who had a fantastic afternoon against Ohio State, has been selected as player of the week.
James Turner, a kicker for Michigan football, was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.
Longtime kicker Jake Moody was a familiar face to the Michigan fans. In times of need, such as against Illinois the previous season, Moody was dependable and consistent, always coming through for the team.
A few Michigan supporters were concerned about what Moody or Brad Robbins would bring to the special teams in 2023.
Tommy Doman, a recruit from Michigan, took over as punter, and the Wolverines then recruited James Turner, another Michigan native, from Louisville.
It also yielded benefits.
In a 30-24 victory over Ohio State on Saturday, Turner scored three crucial field goals, earning him the title of Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.
With 11:43 remaining in the third quarter, Tuner kicked a 50-yard field goal to tie his career-long lead and put Michigan ahead by seven. The Wolverines took a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter after he made a 37-yard field goal. Finally, with 1:05 remaining in the game, Turner made a 37-yard field goal to put Michigan ahead by six points.
Mr. Turner was having an incredible day.
