The Denver Broncos made a number of major mistakes in the offseason, but at least Wilson is returning their investment. The trade of Russell Wilson was one of them. Randy Gregory, not in that sense.

In the previous offseason, Gregory agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Broncos. He had three sacks in ten games over the course of two seasons. According to numerous reports, the 30-year-old linebacker is about to be cut by the Broncos.

Spotrac claims that on his base pay for 2023, Gregory received $14 million guaranteed last year and an additional $14 million guaranteed this year. That’s $28 million spent on essentially useless stuff. Gregory’s punching incident with Los Angeles Rams guard Oday Aboushi following a Broncos defeat last season garnered the most attention.

When Gregory became a free agent last year, the Dallas Cowboys believed they had signed him again. However, due to language the Cowboys wanted in the contract, Gregory pulled out of a deal and signed with Denver. It appeared as though Dallas had struck gold.

Gregory will be a free agent and likely draw interest despite his last two seasons and release from the Broncos. He played well as a pass rusher for the Cowboys. Despite his upcoming 31st birthday in November, Gregory will probably sign a short-term contract with a team in dire need of pass rush assistance.

This represents yet another recent error for the Broncos, who are fast becoming one of the NFL’s worst teams. They will continue to use their younger, more potent pass rushers. There will not be any Although Gregory will always be remembered as one of the worst signings in team history, I have pleasant memories of his time there.
