Worthy had six catches for 86 yards before leaving the game against the Cowboys
In the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy left the Longhorns’ 49-21 victory over Oklahoma State due to what appeared to be an ankle injury in the fourth quarter. Worthy left the game and a little while later, still wearing street clothes and crutches, he came back to the sidelines. Worthy’s x-rays came back negative, according to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, who gave a positive update after the Longhorns won their first Big 12 championship since 2009.
On third-and-11, Worthy caught a pass for ten yards, but it looked like an Oklahoma State defender rolled on him as he was going out of bounds after a routine tackle. After the play, the junior grabbed his left ankle right away. He went out of bounds and didn’t seem to be able to stop himself, but it looked like he was trying to plant. On the following play, Texas converted the fourth down into a touchdown.
Worthy had six catches for 86 yards in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys as Texas built the huge lead. Quarterback Quinn Ewers set a Big 12 Championship Game record with more than 452 yards passing.
The Longhorns are well-stocked at wide receiver, even though losing Worthy for any length of time would have been a big loss. Three pass catchers from Texas, including 100-yard scorers Adonai Mitchell and Ja’Tavion Sanders, have at least six receptions. With nine targets, Worthy leads Texas, though.
Before the Big 12 Championship Game, Worthy led the Longhorns with 67 receptions for 883 yards and five touchdowns.
