Mahomes has been formally nominated by the team for the Walter Payton Man NFL Man of the Year Award, which is given out by Nationwide, for the second consecutive year.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is “the league’s most prestigious honor given annually to the player who best represents the greatness and compassion of Walter Payton on and off the field,” according to league commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL Foundation and Nationwide will donate up to $55,000 to the charity of the nominee’s choice, and the winner will receive a $250,000 donation.

It was announced earlier in the year that Mahomes had emerged victorious in the Nationwide Charity Challenge, which was a result of the previous Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award competition. $25,000 was given to his foundation as a result of Chiefs supporters supporting him on social media and helping him win.
