No. 10 Notre Dame (5-2) fell to No. 25 Louisville (6-0, 3-0 ACC) in a shocking 33-20 upset last weekend.
The Fighting Irish only generated 298 yards of total offense and converted on 3-of-13 third down attempts. Louisville also forced five Notre Dame turnovers, including Devin Neal’s interception of Sam Hartman with less than two minutes remaining.
On the most recent episode of Always College Football, ESPN’s Greg McElroy defended Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and made a comparison to current Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
“He didn’t have a training wheel run at a ‘stepping stone’ program. He went from coordinator at Cincinnati to coordinator at Notre Dame to the head coach at one of the most heavily scrutinized places in college football. He’s gonna be fine. I’m not at all concerned about him. I think he’s a great coach. I think his best times are in front of him, but he’s absolutely got to get the offensive line going because that has been the heart and soul of this team for as long as I can remember.”
Notre Dame has an excellent shot to rebound from last week’s disappointing loss as the Fighting Irish hosts No. 10 USC. Kickoff is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m. CT on NBC.
