Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Bryce Harper lets out a yell celebrating his RBI double in the fifth inning in Game 4 of the baseball National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres, Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, in Philadelphia.

A Very Brief Lesson on the Philadelphia Phillies

Garret Stubbs of the Philadelphia Phillies said, “Come here in October if you don’t understand Philadelphia.” Even better, you could just take a lesson from Villanova’s biggest Phillies fan.

Though I lack the scientific research necessary to do so, I can try my best to enlighten you about the atmosphere of Philadelphia during any given sports season and perhaps win you over to our point of view.

Philly sports fans have developed a bit of a reputation in the last few years. The general public thinks Philly sports fans are insane individuals who yell horrible chants at their rivals, flip cars, and scale traffic poles. Sure, we are, but we’re also so much more.

The Phillies have not had much luck in the postseason in the past, as much as it hurts my body to say it. But last season, when they made it to the postseason as a Wild Card team and ultimately lost to the Astros in the World Series, things took a completely different turn.

This was just what Phillies fans needed, even with the loss. The perseverance and commitment of the players and supporters finally paid off after many years. To be honest, Phillies supporters will always cheer for their team, but watching them win is much more enjoyable.

Regarding the players, there are undoubtedly a few standouts that every supporter ought to be aware of. Of course,

I am aware that some individuals may find Phillies fans to be a little intimidating.

They are loud, for sure, and I can see why they might seem excessive to an outsider. I can promise you, though, that there is nothing to be concerned about. Anyone who opposes the Phillies is afraid of Phillies fans. They don’t abandon their own people either.

One well-known instance from this season is when star player Trea Turner had a run of unfavorable games. Turner was in a slump after playing countless games in which he failed to make contact with the ball.

The Phillies faithful met him halfway because it was obvious he was giving it his all and continued to practice for hours after the games.
