Balancing Miami’s Top Transfer Portal Targets and NIL

It’s not as simple for Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes to offer top players NIL deals through the Transfer Portal.

Schools are already making an effort to prevent players from quitting because of worries about NIL. It can be problematic to give players money if they haven’t yet played a down for the Hurricanes. College coaches like Cristobal need to consider that additional factor.

About that point, the “Why is he getting that money?” type of conversations are starting to come up around college football. It’s a potentially touchy situation for any college football coach. Here’s an example at Florida State:

Another consideration would be the total allotment of NIL money that Miami can use. It’s just math. At some point, there’s a breaking point. That’s where figuring out how much to spend on a player and/or a particular position comes into play so that every position is taken care of.
