Papi Khomane: Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana Star and His Mother Die in Car Accident

A former South African international Papi Khomane has passed away along with his mother in a fatal accident that occurred on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the death of their former captain as the tragic incident leaves the entire football fraternity in deep sorrow.

Khomane made 150 appearances for the Buccaneers after joining from Jomo Cosmos back in 1998.

He also had nine caps for the South African national football team and was part of the Bafana Bafana squad to AFCON 2000.

The former defender passed away alongside his mother, Rita Khomane, following a tragic accident as they headed for a funeral.

In a club statement, Pirates described Khomane, 48, as a man of few words.

The 28-year-old collapsed in the 23rd minute of the game and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead as he had been playing with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defribillator due to a heart problem.

The lanky forward’s first case of a heart condition was when his move to Brighton hit the snag due to failing his medical.
