Takeaways from Lions’ 28-13 Loss to Bears

The Detroit Lions were trying to get one step closer to their NFC North championship.

Detroit turned the ball over in its opening game against the Chicago Bears and came away with a narrow victory at home against a venerable division rival.

Detroit made a number of defensive line changes before traveling to Soldier Field for a Week 14 game. Defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu started beside Kerby Joseph in place of Tracy Walker, and many defensive tackles on the team were active.

Despite the fact that the weather was better than anticipated, Detroit lost its fourth game of the season due to careless play and numerous errors.

Following the Lions’ 28-13 defeat to the Bears, there are a few things to remember.

Using the defense of the Lions, the Bears win the first coin toss.

After winning the opening coin toss, the Bears elected to go on the offensive to begin the game. In order to get the football first in the second half, teams usually choose to defer.

The final month of the season has not seen Detroit’s defense perform particularly well, and the Bears were able to take advantage of glaring weaknesses early in the game.

With little opposition from Aaron Glenn’s defense, Chicago marched down the field against Detroit’s faltering defense.

The Bears’ opening touchdown drive of the game saw them rush for 57 yards, led by quarterback Justin Fields. During the drive, Chicago’s quick signal-caller was able to add 28 yards.

Following a straight snap, wideout DJ Moore scored a 16-yard touchdown scamper to cap off an eight-play, 69-yard drive.

Early on, tackling problems ruined defensive efforts.

After playing poorly in the first quarter, Detroit was behind 10-0 going into the second.

Five quick runs and four penalties put Detroit behind early.

In the first half, Detroit’s efforts, on both sides of the football, had a negative impact on the scoreboard.

Rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs dropped a third-down pass that could have easily been taken to the end zone.

Going for it on fourth down instead of kicking a 53-yard field goal, Jared Goff tossed an interception, his fourth of the season against Chicago.
