This season, Parris Campbell has gradually been cut from the New York Giants offense. But in Week 14, the wide receiver went through something that, in his five seasons in the league, he had never gone through before.
For New York’s “Monday Night Football” home game versus the Green Bay Packers, Campbell was a healthy scratch. He expressed his shock at the team’s decision to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
Parris Campbell, a wide receiver for the Giants, tells me he was “shocked” and “hurt” by his first career healthy scratch on Monday, which he “really didn’t understand.”
The Giants’ brass informed Campbell of the bad news on Sunday, more than 24 hours before the game, and he was “grateful”

In March, Campbell signed a one-year, $3 million contract with New York to cash in on his career-best 2022 season with the Indianapolis Colts.
In his final season with the Colts, the 2019 second-round pick played in all 17 games (16 starts) and set career highs in targets (91), receptions (63), receiving yards (623) and receiving touchdowns (three). Just like he did in Indianapolis, Campbell has had to deal with catching passes from a rotating cast of quarterbacks while playing for Big Blue, but his stats have drastically decreased.
In 12 games (three starts), the Ohio State product has only managed 20 catches for 104 scoreless yards on 27 targets. Since Week 6, Campbell has only recorded four receptions for 19 yards.
He has also seen action as a kick returner for the first time since his rookie season, recording eight returns for 191 yards.
