In addition to knowing the dates and locations of all of their league games, the Sooners also discovered the remainder of their schedule, which includes a matchup with Texas on October 12.
On Wednesday, Oklahoma was given the order to report for the 2024 college football season, which will be the Sooners’ first as a Southeastern Conference member.
OU was previously aware of its opponents and the venues for those matches. The Sooners were also aware of their two home dates for the upcoming season: September 21 against Josh Heupel of Tennessee and November 23 against Nick Saban of Alabama.
However, OU supporters can now start really organizing travel and home Saturdays.
In Week 4, the Sooners take on the Volunteers in their first-ever SEC game. Heupel won a national championship with the Sooners in 2000, but he was also ousted as offensive coordinator after the 2014 season, so his return to OU will be bittersweet.
On September 28, OU travels to Auburn for its inaugural SEC road game. This season, the Tigers finished 3-6 overall and 3-5 in SEC play.
After having the day off on October 5, the Sooners take face Texas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on October 12. After losing to the Sooners 34-30, the Longhorns are now 12-1 on the season.
The Sooners’ next two opponents are South Carolina (5-7, 3-5) at home on October 19 against former Sooners assistant Shane Beamer, and Ole Miss (10-2, 6-2) on October 26 at Ole Miss.
On November 2, the Sooners’ November schedule kicks off with a home game versus FCS opponent Maine, marking their first conference game outside of conference play.
On November 9, OU takes on Missouri, a former Big Eight/Big 12 rival (10-2, 6-2), and on November 16, it has its second open date.
The final few weeks of Brent Venables’ third season in Norman then become particularly difficult for him and his team. On November 23, the Sooners and Crimson Tide (12-1, 8-0) square off in Norman. On November 30, OU visits LSU (9-3, 6-2) to wrap off the regular season.
The Sooners, who have a combined record of 127-93-11 (.574) versus its eight SEC opponents in 2024, have never visited Auburn, Ole Miss, or LSU.
Oklahoma will play half of this year’s College Football Playoff field in Alabama and Texas the following season. (After that, OU hosts a home-and-home non-conference series in Michigan versus a third 2023 playoff team; the 2025 contest takes place in Norman, while the 2026 matchup takes place in Ann Arbor.)
Oklahoma and Texas, which have been a part of the Big 12 Conference since 1996, declared in July 2021 that they would be joining the SEC in 2025. That timeline was advanced to 2024 in February.
