Contained in Joe Burrow’s latest agreement, the Cincinnati Bengals star inks the biggest contract ever

Thanks to his lavish contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals, quarterback Joe Burrow will have the highest annual salary in NFL history.

Since being selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, Burrow has been essential to the Bengals’ success. The 26-year-old quickly made up for lost time after leading his team to the AFC Championship final the following year and the Super Bowl in the 2021 season, despite sustaining a knee injury in his rookie season.

The quarterback will enter the NFL record books with this salary, which translates to an average of £47 million. Many in the Bengals organization will think that Burrow, who has transformed the team on the field since joining three years ago, deserves the record salary.

The Bengals matched the franchise’s worst-performing season in 2019 by winning just twice during the 2019 season, earning the unwelcome title of the NFL’s worst team just a year prior to his departure. Burrow’s influence is evident in the Cincinnati setup, which has grown into one of the league’s best teams since then.

The quarterback was not the only player in his position to ink a big new contract; Justin Herberts of the Los Angeles Chargers just inked a $42 million ($52.5 million) contract, making him the highest paid player in the NFL annually. Before Burrow signed his contract, Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens both claimed the title.

The 2020 No. 1 draft pick pledged his future to the Bengals earlier this week. Burrow declared, “This is where I want to be.” “I want to spend the rest of my career here. That’s what we’re trying to achieve. You’ve witnessed the actions of Zac Taylor and the front office during their tenure. A tiny portion of that is me. To be a part of that excites me.”

Following a calf strain during training earlier this summer, the 26-year-old star’s preparation for the upcoming season has not been ideal. The quarterback has given a fitness update more than six weeks after developing the issue, and it seems to be good news for Bengals supporters.
