Forever In Our Heart today: Oklahoma OU quarterback dies in a plane crash
Wes Caves, a businessman from Tulsa, and Steve Davis, a former quarterback for the University of Oklahoma, perished in an Indiana plane disaster on this day in 2013.
About 1:00 p.m., the aircraft was supposed to take off from Jones Riverside Airport in Tulsa and travel for one hour and twenty-five minutes to Indiana. According to Federal Aviation Administration authorities who spoke with The Associated Press, the private jet crashed at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Sallisaw native Davis was one of eight quarterbacks on the OU roster in 1971. Before Landry Jones overtook him in 2012, he held the record for the most wins by a starting quarterback in the program with 32, having joined the Sooners as their starter in 1973.
Inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame in 2007, he was awarded MVP of the 1976 edition of the bowl game.
