This season, the Kansas City Chiefs defense has shown that it is a formidable force to be reckoned with. As their 2023 campaign progresses, it is becoming increasingly clear that this group is very unique.
No less than 13 Kansas City defenders have recorded half a sack or more through Week 9, and the team’s 31 total sacks rank second in the NFL, according to Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen.
This season, the Chiefs have had at least one half-sack from thirteen (!!) different players, which is tied with Baltimore for the most of any NFL team.
With 31 sacks, the Chiefs have the second-most in the whole league.

The team’s identity has been centered around offense under Andy Reid’s leadership, so the defense’s comeback is encouraging for supporters who have been waiting for defensive football to return to Kansas City.
The Chiefs still have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to win the Super Bowl again later in the season, but they appear to have put together a championship-caliber defense that will support Patrick Mahomes and the team’s offense in the 2023 playoffs.
