It turns out that the Cleveland Browns had that player all along. The team searched for a pass-catcher to complement wide receiver Amari Cooper for the majority of the offseason and the few days preceding the NFL trade deadline.

Simply put, their quarterback lacked the knowledge to make the most of him.

On Sunday, December 17, the NFL Staff of Bleacher Report referred to the tight end as a “elite threat” as Cleveland got ready for what might be a legitimate postseason run.

After throwing three interceptions against the [Chicago] Bears, longtime veteran Joe Flacco’s honeymoon period almost came to an end. But the former Super Bowl victor remained unflinching. He just goes back to his primary playmakers, beginning with David Njoku, the tight end.

Because of his ability to create after the catch, Njoku has been used more frequently in the offensive line-up by offensive play-caller and head coach Kevin Stefanski during the second half of the season. Additionally, Flacco has quickly come to trust the tight end.

Even though Amari Cooper is a fantastic wide receiver, Cleveland’s offense relies mostly on Njoku as its main receiving threat. There has always been a lot of potential at the tight end. Right now, he’s performing like one of the best players in his position.
