ESPN REPORT, FOREVER IN OUR HEART: Iowa Hawkeyes football player  died at 23

Cody Ince, a former offensive lineman for the University of Iowa who was engaged to be married after quitting sports, was discovered dead at age 23 at his Wisconsin home on July 15.

Although Ince’s obituary mentioned that he passed away “unexpectedly” at his Grantsburg home, the cause of his death was not disclosed. The people who survive Ince include his fiancée, Olivia Tucker, parents, Marty and Tammy, and sister, Carly. Ince received an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick in 2020.

A statement posted on the Iowa football Twitter page honored Ince, and it was written by longtime Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz.

“The news of Cody Ince’s untimely death saddens me greatly,” Ferentz remarked. “Cody was an amazing young man who greatly contributed to our program and was a valued teammate.”

“He liked fishing, football, and

hunting, and he emphasized the value of friendships and family,” he went on. “Cody was about to get married and start this new chapter in his life.”

Throughout his career, Ince participated in 29 games—10 of which he started—from 2018 to 2021. According to The Athletic, injuries forced him to retire last year before he could start a possible NFL career.
