After practicing on Friday for the first time this week, team physicians and the league’s independent neurological consultant gave Lawrence the all-clear.

During the team’s last drive in a 23-7 loss to Baltimore last weekend, Lawrence was scumbling up the middle when the Jaguars believe he suffered a head injury. Following the hit, he misfired on seven of his last eight passes, a run of play that caused some concern for his health. Lawrence described his post-game symptoms.

Prior to their upcoming games, San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy, Cleveland receiver Amari Cooper, and New Orleans receiver Chris Olave were cleared to play a week after entering the league’s concussion protocol.

Despite being doubtful to play on multiple occasions during the past two seasons, Lawrence managed to avoid missing a start for the first time in his three-year professional career. He overcame a sprained toe the previous season, a sprained knee in October, and a high ankle sprain in the last few weeks to continue playing.

The Jaguars are already without receivers Christian Kirk (groin) and Zay Jones (knee/hamstring), as well as left tackle Cam Robinson (knee). Playing without Lawrence would have presented a whole new set of challenges for a team hoping to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 1998–99.

This season, Lawrence has thrown for 3,525 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. In addition, he has six fumbles, four touchdowns on the ground, and a career-high 32 sacks.

The Jaguars still have the ability to make the playoffs despite their current losing streak because of divisional tiebreakers against Houston and Indianapolis. However, a defeat would probably knock Jacksonville out of the top spot for the first time since Week 3.
