Lakers rumors: Gabe Vincent may miss six to eight weeks due to surgery for a knee injury.

Gabe Vincent, a point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, may have surgery on his left knee.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Vincent is “strongly considering” the surgery, meaning that he would need to recover for six to eight weeks. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Vincent has been dealing with a left knee injury that includes “a little bit of swelling.” Vincent has only participated in one game since October.

After participating in the season’s first four games, Vincent sat out the rest of the schedule until playing against the Chicago Bulls on December 20. He didn’t play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday and only played 14 minutes in that game.

Vincent has averaged 5.4 points and three assists per game in his five games so far this season.

This offseason, Vincent inked a three-year, $33 million contract to join the Lakers. Vincent played in the G League until 2020, when he was drafted by the Miami Heat, having not been selected in the 2018 NBA Draft.

The 2022–2023 season, when he averaged 9.4 points per game and assisted Miami in defeating the Boston Celtics to win the Eastern Conference, was the high point of his time with the Heat. Throughout the series, Vincent averaged 15.8 points per game and scored 29 in the fourth game.

After securing a contract with the Lakes thanks to his stellar postseason performance, Vincent is eager to return to the court and immediately start contributing to his new team.

Los Angeles, which is now in ninth place in the Western Conference, is off to a shaky 15–14 start to the season. The Lakers are trying to turn things around against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday after winning an In-Season Tournament Championship against the Indiana Pacers five games ago.

Vincent proved to be a useful addition for the Lakers off the bench. Vincent wants to get well and start acting again.
