Packers’ Luke Musgrave details finishing game with lacerated kidney: ‘It’s football, you play with pain’

Luke Musgrave, a rookie tight end, has a particularly unpleasant memory of the Packers’ victory over the Chargers last month. The Oregon State player selected in the second round caught a pass, was tackled, and ultimately came down with the ball.

Musgrave’s kidney lacerated from the play. However, the 23-year-old managed to keep his attention on the game at hand rather than dwelling on the excruciating pain he was probably experiencing at the moment.

Even though Musgrave knew he had most likely sustained a serious injury, he acknowledged that living with pain is a part of the job.

On Friday, he remarked, “I knew something was probably wrong, but it’s football.” “You play through pain and then it usually hurts more after the game.”

Musgrave remembers going to the restroom after the game and discovering blood in his pee, which led him to the hospital.

“I put the pieces together pretty quickly, kind of knew that was a problem,” he stated.

It was later determined by medical professionals that Musgrave had a perforated kidney. The doctors decided to keep him overnight because the severity had gotten worse. Despite not needing surgery, the injury ruined his promising rookie season.

Indeed, Musgrave admitted, “it wasn’t awesome.” “Internal organs are definitely a little bit different than your normal football injury.”

After Musgrave spent about a month on the sideline, the Packers designated him to return from injured reserve on Thursday. He ultimately did not participate in Thursday’s or Friday’s practices. He has been ruled out for this weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
