Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck has died at the age of 78, his family have confirmed.
According to a statement posted on his Instagram account, Jeff Beck passed away yesterday, January 10, from bacterial meningitis.
“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” said a statement.
“He died quietly yesterday after unexpectedly developing bacterial meningitis. His family requests privacy as they deal with this tragic loss.”
Known as the “guitarist’s guitarist,” Jeff Beck influenced a great number of musicians and is rightfully ranked in the upper echelons of media publications’ lists of the greatest guitarists.
Following a brief period as lead guitarist for The Yardbirds in 1965 and 1966, Jeff Beck led the critically acclaimed solo career as well as the eponymous Jeff Beck Group and supergroup Beck, Bogert & Appice.
Six times in his career, Jeff Beck has taken home the Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and once for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Both in his capacity as a solo artist (2009) and as a member of the Yardbirds (1992) he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
During the summer of 2022, he embarked on his most recent UK tour, where he was frequently accompanied on guitar by his close friend Johnny Depp.

Born Geoffrey Arnold Beck, he was raised in Wallington, in the London borough of Sutton. At the age of six, he was motivated to pick up a guitar after listening to his idol Les Paul play “How High the Moon” on the radio.
Beck cut his teeth in a variety of bands as a teenager at Wimbledon College of Art, including Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savage.
He kept performing as a session musician and for various groups throughout the London circuit, but he really came into his own when he took Eric Clapton’s place in The Yardbirds, thanks to the suggestion of fellow session musician Jimmy Page.

Previously, Beck and Page collaborated on the instrumental track “Beck’s Bolero,” which also included Nicky Hopkins, John Paul Jones, and Keith Moon.
Together with Page, Beck played guitar on The Yardbirds’ hit psychedelic anthem “Happenings Ten Years Time Ago,” and they also recorded a version of Tiny Bradshaw’s “Train Kept A-Rollin.”saw them investigate dark acoustic domains.
After being fired from The Yardbirds in 1967, Jeff Beck founded The Jeff Beck Group, which featured musicians like Cozy Powell on drums, Ronnie Wood on bass, and Rod Stewart on vocals.
Along with John Paul Jones and Rod Stewart, he also recorded a cover of The Attack’s “Hi Ho Silver Lining” in 1967, which went on to become a long-lasting hit worldwide.
Before passing away, the Jeff Beck Group put out three studio albums. In 1972, Beck, bassist Tim Bogert, and drummer Carmine Appice formed the supergroup Beck, Bogert & Appice. Before splitting up in 1974, they collaborated on one studio album.
Before his untimely death in 1975, Jeff Beck released a total of eleven solo long-players. His first solo album, Truth, was released in 1968. His second solo album, Blow By Blow, followed in 1975.
Over the years, Jeff Beck has worked with many artists, such as Stevie Wonder, Beth Hart, ZZ Top, Johnny Depp, and Eric Clapton, proving his legendary status.

Regarding the guitarist’s influence, Ian Danter of Planet Rock, a resident Jeff Beck enthusiast, says: “So many tributes you’ll see and read to Jeff will undoubtedly mention Hi Ho Silver Lining, his most famous piece of music, but in truth that song is as representative of his career and contribution to music as (Music From) The Beatles.”Elder supported KISS.

Attending his live performances was always an exciting experience as Jeff was always willing to try new things and take chances in his pursuit of the ideal note, run, or chord progression.
“No one could really match his use of the tremolo arm, also known as the whammy bar. For Queen’s Innuendo album, Brian May composed Bijou as an ode to Jeff’s playing. He was the guitarist of choice for David Gilmour.
“He collaborated with Stevie Wonder on the song “Superstition,” took over the song “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers,” and his body of work has garnered him numerous accolades and admirers. The 1989 film Guitar Shop won a Grammy the following year.
