Sims has had a good week of practice, according to Rhule. Sims started the first two games before hurting his ankle in game three against Colorado on September 9. “Goes about nicely. threw the ball with great skill. I can’t say that he’s maybe 100% recovered after an injury like that, but when he plays, you don’t notice anything is wrong with him.”

He stated that the key to winning any position is knowing “what we need to do this week and who gives us the best chance to win.”

Cameron Lenhardt, a rookie defensive lineman, hurt his ankle against Northern Illinois, so it’s likely that the game will determine whether he plays against Louisiana Tech on Saturday. Blaise Gunnerson, a sophomore D-lineman, is “full go” following a minor injury on Saturday.

Running backs coach E.J. Barthel has been “working overtime” to get Anthony Grant’s top backups, Emmett Johnson and Kwinten Ives, up to speed since Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson are out for the season. Against the Bulldogs and their “great blitz package,” Rhule stated that it will be critical for whoever is in the backfield to recognize and adapt to blitzes.

It’s predicted to rain. Saturday, and in order to get ready for the weather, the Huskers practiced some wet-ball drills on Wednesday night.
