This offseason, the New York Giants may make major roster changes in the wake of their disappointing 2023 campaign. A number of aging players were expected to be removed from the roster in 2024 because they did not perform up to par.

Is it time for the Giants to let go of the player with the longest contract

The New York Giants have had Sterling Shepard since 2016. Shepard, the team member with the longest contract, is probably nearing the end of his time with Big Blue due to a plethora of injuries that have prevented him from reaching his full potential.

This season, Shepard has only participated in sixteen percent of the team’s offensive plays, despite catching seven passes for 39 yards and one touchdown. After missing most of the 2022 season due to injury, the 30-year-old slot receiver inked a one-year contract extension with the Giants during the offseason.

Shepard will once more be a free agent this offseason, and it doesn’t seem likely that the Giants will set aside cap space to sign him to a contract for the following campaign given his lack of output and playing time.

The position of Adoree Jackson has been surpassed

The decline of Adoree’ Jackson has regrettably been attributed to the ascent of rookie cornerback Deonte Banks. Once leading the depth chart, the seasoned cornerback struggled at the start of this season, so Jackson took over as the starting cornerback while Banks advanced.

Jackson’s contract expires at the end of the year, so he may leave during the offseason. He inked a three-year, $39 million deal in 2020, and as a leader of Big Blue’s defense, he played admirably for two seasons. However, Jackson’s contract is up this offseason, so he might be playing for a different team in 2024.

Jackson has, however, stated that he hopes to spend the upcoming season back in New York. He hopes to stay with the Giants longer because he feels he has “unfinished business” in the Big Apple.

Choosing wisely to fire Glowinski Mark

Giants' Mark Glowinski on bench in second year of $20M deal

The offensive line for the Giants is terrible. Veteran Mark Glowinski was anticipated to start at right guard going into this season. He started the season in the starting lineup, but after a few uncharacteristic performances, he was soon benched.

Glowinski is scheduled to enter his final year of contract in 2024, but it is unlikely that he will play next season under his current contract. Glowinski’s lack of playing time this season may lead the Giants to decide to release him in the offseason, which would free up $5.7 million in salary cap space. In 2024, locating a qualified starter at right guard will be of utmost importance.
