What Will Happen with the Cincinnati Bengals After Joe Burrow Signs a Massive Extension?

Cincinnati — Joe Burrow has agreed to a five-year, $275 million contract extension with the Bengals, of which $219.01 million is guaranteed.

The standout quarterback rises to become the highest-paid NFL player ever.

On Friday, the deal is anticipated to be completed. What does it portend for the future of Tee Higgins? But what about other veterans who are about to enter the last year of their contracts, like DJ Reader and Chidobe Awuzie?

Burrow may be the highest-paid player in the NFL thanks to his contract, but he did give Cincinnati some leeway when he accepted a five-year extension.

He will earn $316 million, or about $45 million annually, over the next seven years. This covers both his rookie contract’s last year and the fifth-year option the Bengals used this offseason.

The Bengals will have an opportunity to pursue Tee Higgins or other players they hope to sign prior to the start of the season because they can spread the money over seven seasons.

The good news is that Higgins is the center of attention because Logan Wilson has already been extended.

The 24-year-old has exceeded the 1,000-yard receiving threshold in each of the last two seasons and has at least 67 receptions in his first three seasons.

Can Higgins be signed by the Bengals before the team’s opening game in Cleveland on Sunday?

Even though it seems unlikely, it shouldn’t be completely discounted. They would be thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract because he is a vital component of their offense.
