ESPN REPORT: Breaking: Riders Head Coach Craig Dickenson Working To Land Electric 22-Year-Old Star… What’s your thoughts on this?
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have fired head coach Craig Dickenson, as the team declared on Monday that it will not be extending his contract. Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Jeremy O’Day will continue to hold these positions.
“I just wanted to express my gratitude to Coach Dickenson for all of his effort and commitment. At a Riders press conference on Monday, O’Day told reporters, “He really worked his butt off the last number of years and he gave the last ten years of his career to the Roughriders.”
Additionally, I just ask that people respect him for the kind of person he is, as he undoubtedly returned the favor. He’s simply an amazing man. Making the choice to not reinstate Coach Dickenson was the best move for our team’s progress.
Since 2019, Dickenson has been the 47th head coach of the green and white.
From 2016 to 2018, he served as the coordinator of special teams for the Riders.
The news was made just after the Riders’ regular season came to an end on Saturday with a loss to the Argonauts(opens in a new tab).

With a 6-12 record at the end of the 2023 season, the green and white missed the CFL postseason for the second consecutive year. Additionally, it marked the second time in a row that the team finished the season with seven straight losses.
On Monday morning, Dickenson was notified of his departure.
O’Day claims that the hunt for a new head coach will start right away.
He stated, “That process will take place over the next several weeks.” “We’ll need to go through the process of requesting permission to talk to staff members from other teams, so I can’t give you a specific time of when we’ll have our head coach in place.”
Additionally, a comprehensive assessment of the Riders football operations department is scheduled.
Nevertheless, O’Day has been re-signed to a three-year contract extension by the organization, which has moved on from Dickenson. O’Day will be in his 26th season with the Riders and his 6th year in his present positions in 2024.
He began his time with the green and white as a player in 1999 and joined football
2011 operations.
“I’ve had numerous opportunities to speak with players in our league, players on our team, coaches, and other league personnel, and one thing that consistently comes through is how much respect Jeremy has.” According to Roughriders CEO Craig Reynolds, “Jeremy is the best general manager I’ve seen in all of those areas. There are probably six or seven requirements for a general manager to succeed in this league.”
“I believe that things can improve rapidly. First and foremost, I believe we have a very talented roster. Additionally, I believe our head coach will change. Reynolds continued, “I’m very confident that people will want to work with Jeremy and be the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Regarding the extension, O’Day stated, “It means the world to me that they believe in me and that I’m going to be part of turning this around.”
O’Day apologized to the fans in his remarks to the media, promising better times to come.
“I just wanted to let the fan base know how much we value their support. We are aware that both this season and last season, we disappointed you. We will improve, and we must improve,” he declared.
“All we ask for is their unwavering support, which they have given us for as long as I can remember. We’ll put in endless hours to ensure they have a team they can be proud of when they take the field.
