A University of Alabama football player was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree sodomy with a minor female.

The 19-year-old walk-on wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, Antonio Ross, has been cut from the squad.

The school declared on Tuesday that Tony Ross had been expelled from campus and was no longer a part of the program.

Since his arrest in Weaver, Alabama, Ross has been released from Calhoun County jail on a $50,000 bond.

Specifics like the victim’s age and the nature of the accusations have not been made public.

When the case was initially reported to the Anniston Police, they found that Weaver had jurisdiction over the alleged crime. The young girl was then interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Calhoun County.

Weaver Police Lieutenant Andy Hunter told AL.com, “This case highlights the need for these centers and funding for child advocacy workers who are specifically trained to interview children in a safe and comfortable space.”

Ross was a standout walk-on at Alabama who contributed to the team actively despite not having a scholarship.

According to AL.com, Ross had previously committed to Liberty but changed his mind and transferred to Alabama when head coach Hugh Freeze accepted a position at Auburn.

In less than a week, coach Nick Saban’s program has been rocked by two scandals.
