Roman Cechmanek, a former goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers, passed away in his native Czech Republic on Sunday at the age of 52, the team announced. The cause of death was not disclosed.

During his four NHL seasons, Cechmanek spent the first three with the Flyers from 2000 to 2003. However, during that period in Philadelphia, he was chosen twice to win the Bobby Clarke Trophy as the team’s most valuable player and was voted into the 2021 NHL All-Star Game.

The Philadelphia Flyers, through their president of hockey operations Keith Jones, released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former goaltender Roman Cechmanek.”A draft from the late roundpick, Cechmanek played for the team from 2000 to 2003 for three seasons, during which he was a highly ccessful and made an instant impact to our club on the ice and in the locker room.
