On Wednesday, Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, answered two of the most meandering questions a coach can possibly answer.
At a press conference for the College Football Playoff National Semifinal, which will take place in the Rose Bowl on January 1, Harbaugh addressed the media. No. 4 Alabama will take on No. 1 Michigan.
Harbaugh was open to answering inquiries regarding the match, his group, etc. However, there are rumors circulating that this CFP could be the veteran coach’s final game in Ann Arbor and that scandals involving the Wolverines program will force him to return to coaching in the NFL.
When two reporters inquired about that possibility, Harbaugh responded with a diatribe of words. The Detroit News beat writer for the Wolverines, Angelique Chengelis, questioned Harbaugh regarding NFL coaching rumors.
“We’re approaching things that way—such a one-track mind,” Harbaugh shot back. “It literally means that we should try to make the most of every day and rule it. After that, we head to bed for the night and wake up the following day to see if we can’t win that day.
The group’s singular goal is to take care of business as usual today and see if we can’t repeat it tomorrow.
After hearing Harbaugh’s lack of response, AP sportswriter Joe Reedy fearlessly continued, pointing out that the Los Angeles Chargers now have a chance due to Brandon Staley’s recent firing. Former NFL quarterback Harbaugh spent his last two seasons with the Chargers.
“I have a very narrow focus about this game,” Harbaugh remarked, adding that the Wolverines players and his family were excited to visit Disneyland for the Rose Bowl welcome event.
Harbaugh then went on with a response that sounded familiar.
“After that, resume your work and see if we can’t rule the day. We’ll practice when we get up tomorrow and see if we can’t win that day. We tackle each day one play at a time, just like Jackie Harbaugh did. This is right out of his playbook.
Harbaugh’s answers generally made fans laugh.
