Tennessee’s starting offensive line for the Citrus Bowl is predicted by Vols Insider.
When the Tennessee Vols play the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Citrus Bowl, they are anticipated to be missing a few offensive linemen.
Brent Hubbs of VolQuest spoke with “Ramon, Kayla, and Will” on 104.5 The Zone on Friday morning, sharing his thoughts on what he believes Tennessee’s offensive line rotation will entail for the Citrus Bowl.
It is anticipated that starting right guard Javontez Spraggins and left tackle John Campbell will miss the game due to injuries.
“I think it’s going to be very similar to what we saw in the Vanderbilt game to close out the year,” Hubbs said. “No one is happier than Nico (Iamaleava) that Cooper Mays will return for the ’24 season. Both Monday and the following year, he will start at center for Tennessee. Ollie Lane, who won’t be returning the following year, will be starting. To aid Nico and those young running backs, I believe they will make every effort to gain as much field experience as they can.”
Hubbs said, “I think you’re going to see Dayne Davis probably at right tackle.” “Gerald Mincey will likely start at left tackle because I don’t think John Campbell will play. Ollie Lane at left guard, Cooper Mays at center. And Jackson Lampley is going to be your right guard. The question then becomes, if for whatever reason you have to go to a sixth guy, who is the first guard in? Jeremiah Crawford won’t be back next season, so you’re probably going to play him out at tackle and slide Dayne Davis inside.”
Hubbs continued, “I’m not sure how prepared Vysen Lang is at guard.” “I guess he’d be the next one off the bench.”
In light of this, Hubbs believes the following should be the starting offensive line for the Vols in the Citrus Bowl:
LT — Cooper Mays RG — Jackson Lampley — Ollie Lane C — Gerald Mincey LG
Dayne Davis, right tackle; Jeremiah Crawford, left tackle
Davis is the backup guard; Crawford moves to tackle.
On Monday at 1:00 PM ET, Tennessee and Iowa will play in the Citrus Bowl.
