Dale Mooney, 53, died on Sunday due to an unidentified “medical issue,” according to an autopsy, which was discovered, according to a statement released by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey on Wednesday.
Morrissey stated that the postmortem results indicate Mooney did not have a “traumatic injury,” but the reason of Mooney’s death is still “undetermined.”
Mooney’s spouse said WCVB that neither she nor her husband knew he had a medical ailment.
Morrissey stated that the police had already done “numerous” interviews and looked at various angles of the incident’s video, but that an investigation into Mooney’s death is still ongoing.
Mooney, who went to the game with three friends, was “verbally taunted” and ended up collapsing on Sunday, according to witnesses who spoke to CNN. This followed a “violent confrontation” with an unidentified fan in another section.
In response to the event, no charges have been brought, according to Morrissey’s office.
Mooney, a native of Newmarket, New Hampshire, watched the Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins game on Sunday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. According to witnesses who spoke with the Boston Globe, Mooney clashed with an unnamed Dolphins fan seated in a different area for the first three quarters of the game before confronting the supporter in the fourth quarter. Witness Joey Kilmartin told the Globe that when other supporters attempted to separate them, the exchange swiftly descended into violence. Social media users shared a video of the event, which showed Mooney getting struck in the head at least twice before passing out. After that, first responders gave CPR. After that, Mooney was taken to Attleboro, Massachusetts’s Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
