Did Giannis Antetokounmpo Attack The Athletic Reporter Because of the Unexpected Death of Mike Budenholzer’s Brother?

After finishing the regular season as the best team in the NBA, the Miami Heat eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks from the first round of the 2023 Playoffs. Though Giannis Antetokounmpo took a lot of flak for missing thirteen free throws in the elimination round, Mike Budenholzer, the head coach, took the brunt of the criticism.

But a recent update claims that Mike’s brother died in a car accident following Game 4, which may be the cause of his complacency. Additionally, for Giannis’ intense response following the game.

In the post-game press conference, Giannis did state that he respected the coaching decisions and did not turn on Butler on his own. While he didn’t exactly put Mike under the bus there, he also remained silent in an attempt to help him.

It’s not entirely clear, though, that even the Bucks’ star player understood what his coach was going through. The Athletic reports that Budenholzer recently discussed the incident with the team’s spokesperson.

Before the Lakers-Grizzlies game on Friday, it was made official by Lakers Head Coach Darvin Ham, who was a member of Mike’s staff and has a great relationship with him.
