A look at the Boston Celtics’ roster for opening night.

Here is the roster as of the start of the upcoming Celtics season, after pink slips were distributed last week. Mfiondu Kabengele’s contract will continue to be a two-way deal, but Noah Vonleh and Justin Jackson will compete for the two open roster spots during training camp and the preseason.

Although it was anticipated that Kabengele would be converted to a regular contract, Noah Vonleh secured a spot on the roster when the Celtics signed Blake Griffin.

Jackson and Vonleh’s contracts don’t become guaranteed unless they are still with the team in January, so they aren’t quite out of the woods yet. We’ll see who Brad Stevens adds as the season progresses because it’s uncommon for a team to finish the season with the same roster that they started it with. Naturally, a lot will depend on how the team plays and on any possible injuries.

Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Malcolm Brogdon, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard are among the Celtics’ depth guards. You can play most guards at the wing positions in the NBA these days, which is why you’ll see all the guards playing in addition to Sam Hauser, Jayson Tatum, and the previously mentioned Brown.
