Spurs blowout, with poor rim protection, impressed Boston’s response, according to Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.

The Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla had criticism for his team even after his team easily defeated the San Antonio Spurs on New Year’s Eve. He specifically brought up a play where the team’s defense of the basket momentarily turned into a turnstile. According to Mazzulla, via Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, “I thought there were about four or five possessions where we weren’t great guarding the rim, which allowed them to get some layups to their right hand.”

He clarified, “We just had to turn it up a little bit.” “We see that when we’re not detailed defensively and when we’re not organized offensively, we’re not at our best.”

But as the Celtics coach pointed out, “we got ourselves out of it quick.” I think we can get out of this faster if we accept responsibility for what we’re doing and are aware of it.
