Dave Wilcox, 49ers linebacker and Hall of Famer, passes away at age 80.

A seven-time Pro Bowl selection known for his physical style, he was one of the game’s best and most durable linebackers.

Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Wilcox passed away on Wednesday. During his 11 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Wilcox was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times. He was eighty.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, declared the player’s passing but did not provide details about the location or reason for the death. It did, however, mention that he had recently had heart surgery.

One of the many accomplishments that won Wilcox a permanent residence in Canton was his transformation of the outside linebacker position, according to a statement from Hall of Fame president Jim Porter.
