Manly fires Des Hasler, the NRL head coach.

After weeks of rumors regarding Des Hasler’s future at Manly, the NRL head coach has been fired, and Anthony Seibold will take over as coach in 2023.

The Sea Eagles’ decision to wear a special pride jersey caused division and hindered a team that had finished in the top four the previous season, as evidenced by their seven consecutive losses.

With only a year remaining on his deal, Hasler’s standing was called into question when Manly failed to make it to the finals, which meant the coach had violated a provision that would have automatically extended his contract until 2024.

Chairman Scott Penn’s assertion this week that the Sea Eagles needed a football department fit for its “premiership-winning team” brought the situation to a breaking point.
