Through his breakout season, Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones has developed resilience.
One of the best discoveries for the Silver and Black this season has been Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones.
When Jones got the chance to contribute to the defense this season, he did not waste any time in making his presence known, as evidenced by his back-to-back pick-sixes.
But last weekend, Jones was brought low by an expensive offsides call that gave the Indianapolis Colts a second chance to capitalize on a field goal that had previously been missed. Jones’ error may have turned him from “hero to zero,” but Raiders Interim Head Coach Antonio Pierce made it clear that errors happen in sports.
“Jack [Jones] and I talk pretty much every day,” Pierce said to reporters on Friday. “For the past ten years, things have been that way. However, I could see the hurt and frustration.
“And let’s be clear, Jack Jones wasn’t the reason we lost the game. And I informed him of that. With Jack Jones, we have also triumphed in the previous two games.
“Look, those are the life lessons that come with being a professional football player—the ups and downs. That’s what I told him.” And you do realize that he will have more of those? But we’re going to come together for him because, as I told our guys, we support him unconditionally when he plays well and equally so when we lose.
“And I believe that Jack’s one quality is his commitment to improving himself every day at work. And that’s the only thing about him that I like. He is aware of it; I just said, “Let’s not do it again, okay? Let’s learn from our mistakes and not make the same ones again.”
To cap off what has been an extremely promising first season as a Raider, Jones has one last chance to play well.
