The Philadelphia Eagles may have a good chance if the Super Bowl comes down to a crucial fourth-down choice.

One of the NFL’s most aggressive teams when it comes to making critical fourth-down decisions is the analytically minded Eagles.

Thanks to two crucial fourth-down conversions in the first half of the NFC title game against San Francisco, those decisions helped propel the team to its first Super Bowl title five years ago under coach Doug Pederson. This season, under Nick Sirianni, those decisions have helped Philadelphia return to the title game.

Despite playing from ahead more often than any other team this season, the Eagles have converted more fourth downs than any other team in both the regular season and the playoffs combined.

“We’re confident,” Sirianni declared. Going all in on fourth down puts you in those situations all week long. We’ve had countless meetings discussing that, as well as what to do in various situations, potential calls to make, what to call if we’ve already made that call, and other related topics. You put yourself through those calls, but in the end, you decide because you have faith in the individuals performing the work.
