Eagles select nine captains for the 2023 campaign, with two new additions to the roster of seven regulars.
Nine captains have been added by the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2023 campaign, seven of whom were part of the NFC championship squad from the previous campaign. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith have been named the two new captains.
Along with Smith and Brown, the captains are Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Darius Slay, and Jake Elliott; the latter seven played a part in the previous season.
The nine Eagles captains are listed here, along with their length of service as team captains and their length of play for the 2023.
The only year Kelce wasn’t a team captain was 2017, the year the Eagles began having captains for the entire season. Along with Kelce, Cox was named captain in 2018 and never stepped down from the position. Since taking over as the starting quarterback in 2021, Hurts has served as a captain.
Given Brown’s first-year performance with the Eagles, his captaincy should come as no surprise. As the first Eagles receiver to finish in the top five in receiving yards since Irving Fryar in 1997, Brown set a franchise record for receiving yards in a season with 1,496 as the Eagles concluded Year 1.
