Browns, Will Will Jim Schwartz Look for a Head Coaching Position During the Offseason?

Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, the brains behind the Browns’ top-ranked defense, answered inquiries about his future as a head coach.

In terms of yards allowed per game, passing yards allowed per game, and defensive EPA, the Browns defense presently leads the league. They rank in the top 10 in several other categories, including sacks, interceptions, and the amount of rushing yards allowed per game.

That team has had a successful season under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. And Cleveland is 11-5 and headed to the playoffs for just the third time in this century, in large part due to their dominance on that side of the ball.

Even if Browns fans don’t want to hear it, those kinds of numbers will be noticed, and for weeks now, rumors have been circulating that Schwartz might be interviewed for head coaching positions this offseason. He made his first appearance as a head coach on Thursday, and although he expressed his love for Cleveland, he did not completely rule out the possibility.

“I’m really happy here,” Schwartz said at the start. “I love this organization, but I haven’t really talked about the Haslams or [general manager] Andrew Berry. I have talked about Kevin. Cleveland is a city I adore. It was such a wonderful vibe [on Thursday]. During my 31-year NFL career, that ranks among my top five atmospheres.
