Antonio Pierce, the Raiders’ acting head coach, is consulting with the two-time Super Bowl champion coach.

Although Antonio Pierce is new to head coaching, the job has gone well thus far. With Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins looming as his biggest yet, head coach Pierce is 2-0 since taking over the Las Vegas Raiders after Josh McDaniels was fired.

He hasn’t done this alone, either, even though he is putting his own spin on coaching in an effort to land the permanent position. According to a league source who spoke with CBS Sports, Pierce has relied on Tom Coughlin, his head coach from his playing days, for guidance on head coaching.

In 2001, Pierce enrolled with Washington after going undrafted out of Arizona. In 2005, Coughlin’s second season as New York coach, he signed with the Giants as a starting linebacker after four seasons there.

Before retiring at the end of the 2009 season, Pierce played five seasons as a captain for the Giants in Super Bowl XLII.
