At ACC Football Kickoff, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell honors Bobby Bowden.

When Bobby Bowden first met Mike Norvell at Florida State in February 2020, he had a positive impression of him.

“Our visit was truly inspiring,” Bowden informed the Democrat. “He has an intelligent disposition.

“I believe we got it correct.”

On December 8, 2019, Norvell was named the Seminoles’ eleventh full-time head football coach. He is still affected by the legendary FSU football player who visited his office.

During his opening remarks to the media on Thursday at the ACC Football Kickoff in North Carolina, Norvell paid tribute to Bowden and then went into further detail about how he hopes to rebuild the Seminoles program to Bowden’s standards.

Bowden, his wife Ann, and their family made the announcement on Wednesday that Bowden has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. When the family first gave the Democrat access to Bowden’s statement, the 92-year-old man did not reveal his condition.

“Dedication, camaraderie, the way they worked as a team, offensive, defensive, and special teams,” 39-year-old Norvell replied when asked about his childhood memories of Bowden’s FSU teams. “They performed for a purpose greater than themselves. They had expectations for how they should appear on a daily basis and strive to be the best versions of themselves and what they stood for.
