The PFWA has named Nick Bosa the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

KRON (SAN FRANCISCO) — San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has been named the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA), which made its announcement Wednesday.

He also recorded an NFL-high 48 quarterback hits, which was 13 more than the next best (Raiders DE Maxx Crosby), according to Pro-Football-Reference. Bosa also added two forced fumbles, 19 tackles for loss, and at least one sack in 13 games.

In Week 13, the 2019 No. 2 overall selection recorded a season-high 3.0 sacks against the Miami Dolphins.

Since the award’s inception in 1992, Bosa, 25, is the third 49ers player to win the PFWA’s Defensive Player of the Year title. The other two are defensive tackle Dana Stubblefield (1997) and cornerback Deion Sanders (1994).

Bosa has already won two NFC Defensive Player of the Week awards, NFC Defensive Player of the Month (November), and First Team All-Pro by The Associated Press this season. This honor rounds out his list of accomplishments.
